Éric Dupuis – PhD student in the research group – defended on Friday, November 26 his thesis, entitled “Monopole operators in transitions out of a Dirac spin liquid”. A success, the jury (including the external examiner Silviu Pufu from Princeton University) having judged the thesis “Exceptional”. Eric therefore obtains the title of Doctor in Physics.
Congratulation !
After a Master in Physics obtained with the highest distinction at UC Louvain (Belgium), Gilles pursued a doctorate in Physics at the same University, focusing on Entanglement and bipartite fidelity in low-dimensional quantum many-body systems.
Gilles is joining the group as a postdoctoral fellow. Welcome Gilles!
The thesis committee of Simon Martin, a master’s student in the group, met this Wednesday, October 13, 2021 and accepted the thesis without corrections.
This thesis, entitled “Conductivity in critical quantum systems containing Dirac fermions”, was deemed “exceptional” by the committee, the highest distinction. Simon has done an excellent job on an interdisciplinary topic at the intersection of condensed matter and high energy physics (CFT).
Congratulation Simon!
The paper “Entanglement and correlations in z = 2 Lifshitz theories under wavefunction renormalization group flow”, written by Christian Boudreault, Clément Berthiere and William Witczak-Krempa, has been published on arXiv.
Rufus Boyack, postdoctoral fellow in the research group, gave a conference on Tuesday, September 14, as part of the CRM physics-mathematics seminars.
You can find the presentation, entitled “Critical properties of quantum spin liquid phase transitions described by gauged Gross-Neveu quantum field theories” here.
Liuke Lyu, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), joins the group to begin his PhD on Chirality in quantum materials.
Liuke obtained his BSc (Honors) as well as his MSc in Physics from CUHK. He was awarded twice the C.N Yang Research Fellowship. Liuke also completed an research exchange semester at the University of California, Berkeley.
Liuke is joining the group with an additional scholarship due to the excellence of his profile.
Welcome Liuke !
As part of the Mathematical Physics Seminars organized by the Center of Mathematical Sciences and Application at Harvard University, William gave last week a talk on “Cornering the universal shape of fluctuations and entanglement”. Find the recording of the seminar here.
Clément Berthiere (postdoctoral fellow) and Simon Garneau-Desroches (PhD student) joined the research group.
Clément Berthiere (France) did a postdoctoral internship at Peking University (China) in 2020. He previously obtained his PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Tours (France), preceded by a Master in Theoretical Physics from the École Normale supérieure of Lyon (France).
Joining the group the group, Clément obtained the prestigious CRM-Simons scholarship for the support of postdoctoral researchers in mathematical sciences.
Simon Garneau-Desroches (Canada) completed his bachelor’s degree at McGill University, in the Honors Mathematics and Physics program. He then obtained a recruitment scholarship from the University of Montreal, and continued his studies there. Simon obtained his master’s degree in Physics in 2021.
Welcome to both of them !
